MBRRACE-UK Perinatal Confidential Enquiries

Confidential reviews of perinatal deaths and babies born with serious morbidities

Reports

A confidential enquiry is a type of detailed investigation where the quality of clinical care is reviewed by experts to find out whether clinical standards were met and if the right decisions were made in the circumstances. The process uses anonymised medical notes, so the identities of the mothers, babies and families involved are “confidential”. The aim of the MBRRACE-UK confidential enquiries is to review the quality of care, as it was recorded in the medical notes, and to find out whether different care may have made a difference for the baby and the mother. We then use the findings as evidence to make recommendations to improve care.
